What a new garage door costs in Dallas-Fort Worth

Short answer
How much does a new garage door cost in DFW?
A new garage door in Dallas-Fort Worth is priced by size, layer count, insulation and window and hardware options. A single-layer steel single door is the entry point and an insulated three-layer double door with glass sits well above it. Most installs finish in one day, including haul-away.
The five things that set the price
Size first: a single door is roughly half the material of a double, and an oversized RV opening is its own category. Construction second: a single-layer steel pan door is the cheapest thing that opens, a two-layer adds a polystyrene insert, and a three-layer sandwiches polyurethane between two steel skins and is dramatically quieter and stiffer. Insulation third, which follows from layer count. Design fourth: raised panel, flush, carriage house, and full-view aluminum with glass are ascending price tiers. Hardware and glass fifth, where decorative hardware, window inserts and obscured or insulated glazing each add.
Insulation is not a comfort upsell in this climate
An attached garage in North Texas radiates into the house all evening in summer. A single-layer steel door offers essentially no resistance to that. A mid-range insulated door lands around R-9 to R-13 and a premium three-layer goes higher. If the garage shares a wall with a bedroom, holds a water heater, or is used as a gym or a shop, the insulated door pays for itself in comfort long before it does in utility bills. The secondary benefit is noise: a three-layer door does not boom the way a pan door does.
Wind rating and what Texas storms ask of a door
A garage door is the largest opening in most houses and a failure there pressurizes the structure in a way that takes roofs off. Wind-rated doors use heavier gauge steel, additional struts and reinforced track. They are not required everywhere in DFW but they are worth pricing, particularly on a west or south-facing elevation with a long unobstructed fetch. We are an Amarr dealer with wind-rated options and we will quote it as a line item so you can see what it costs rather than guessing.
Why the installer matters as much as the door
The same door installed two ways gives you two different products. Track that is not plumb binds the rollers and eats the opener. Springs wound to the wrong weight leave the opener lifting a door instead of guiding it. A bottom seal set against an out-of-level slab leaves a gap that lets in water and everything that walks. We check the opening for square and plumb before hanging anything, wind and balance to the measured door weight, then re-tune the opener limits and force and test the safety reverse in front of you.
See the actual door before you buy it
Color chips and web renderings do not tell you what a woodgrain embossment looks like in afternoon light or how heavy a full-view aluminum section feels. We keep two DFW showrooms, in Keller and Grand Prairie, with real sections you can put your hands on. That is a twenty-minute visit that prevents the most expensive kind of regret on a purchase that stays on the front of your house for twenty years.

Still stuck? Call (817) 381-6173 and talk to someone who does this every day.
How long does a garage door installation take?
Most single and double door installs finish in one day, including removing and hauling off the old door, setting new track, hanging the sections, winding the springs and re-tuning the opener.
Do I need a new opener with a new door?
Not necessarily. If the existing opener is a reasonably recent unit with working safety sensors and enough horsepower for the new door's weight, we reuse it and re-tune it. If the new door is significantly heavier, or the opener predates rolling-code security and battery backup, we will say so.
Will a new door raise my home's value?
Garage door replacement consistently ranks among the highest cost-recouped exterior projects in national remodeling studies, largely because the door is such a large share of the street elevation. Treat that as a directional signal rather than a promise about your specific house.
Can you match the door to my house?
That is what the showroom visit is for. We carry Amarr's line including carriage house and full-view options, and we look at your elevation, your window trim and your existing hardware before recommending a design.
