Turf Maintenance
Cleaning, weeds, repair and how long turf lasts
Short answer
Artificial turf needs brushing, rinsing and debris removal rather than mowing and watering. Weeds appear at edges and in surface debris rather than through the backing. Repairs are usually seam and edge work. Lifespan depends on traffic, sun exposure and infill condition, and any repair or replacement is quoted after a site measure.
Low maintenance is not no maintenance
Overview
Turf is sold as maintenance-free and it is not. It is lower maintenance, with a different list. Nothing on that list is difficult, but skipping it is what produces the matted, weedy, loose-edged installations people photograph as warnings.
Routine care
Brushing lifts fibres that traffic has flattened and redistributes infill. Rinsing clears dust, which in North Texas is not optional. Debris removal matters more than it sounds: leaf litter and organic material breaking down on the surface is what creates a seed bed, and that is where turf weeds actually come from. None of this needs special equipment for a residential area.
- Brush against the lay to lift flattened fibres
- Rinse to clear dust and residue
- Remove organic debris before it breaks down on the surface
Weeds, honestly
Weeds in artificial turf grow in what collects on top of it and at its unsealed edges, not up through a perforated backing in any significant way. That means the answer is debris removal and edge detailing rather than herbicide. If weeds keep returning along one boundary, the edge detail there is the thing to look at.
Repair
Most turf repair is seam or edge work, which is why those details matter at installation. Burns, tears and settlement are localised and generally repairable without replacing an area. ASTM maintains test methods for synthetic turf characteristics, which is the honest basis for discussing durability: a measurable property and the method that produced it, rather than a years figure with nothing behind it.
Lifespan, and why we will not give you a number
We do not publish a lifespan. It is driven by traffic volume, sun exposure, infill condition and maintenance, and any single number applied to every installation is marketing. What we can do is tell you which parts wear first in your use case and what maintenance slows it.

Frequently asked questions
Still stuck? Call (817) 809-9236 and talk to someone who does this every day.
How do you clean artificial turf?
Remove debris, rinse, and brush against the lay to lift flattened fibres and redistribute infill. Frequency depends on traffic, tree cover and whether pets use the area.
Why does my artificial turf have weeds?
Almost always because organic debris has broken down on the surface and created a seed bed, or because an edge is open. Clearing debris and fixing the edge detail addresses the cause; spraying the symptom does not.
Can damaged artificial turf be repaired?
Usually yes. Seams, edges, burns and small tears are localised repairs. Whether a repair or a section replacement is right depends on what failed and why, which needs a look at the installation.
How long does artificial turf last?
We will not quote a figure. Traffic, sun exposure, infill condition and maintenance drive it, and a single number applied to every yard is a sales claim rather than an answer.
