Short answer
How much does a driveway gate cost in DFW?
A single swing driveway gate with an operator starts at $4,500 installed in Dallas-Fort Worth. Dual swing, slide and cantilever gates run $8,000 to $15,000, and custom ornamental iron entries start at $15,000. Power, trenching and low voltage are quoted by distance and are the line most people forget.
What is actually in the price
A driveway gate is four purchases pretending to be one. There is the gate itself, fabricated and finished. There is the operator, which is a machine sized to the gate's weight and duty cycle. There is the access control, meaning keypads, remotes, intercoms, cell-based entry, and the exit loop buried in the drive. And there is the site work: posts with real footings, conduit, power run from the house or the meter, and low voltage back to the operator. The fourth one is where budgets break, because it scales with distance and nobody thinks about it when they are looking at gate photos.
Swing, slide or cantilever
A swing gate is the least expensive and the most common, and it needs clear arc space on the inside of the drive. If the drive slopes up from the road, a swing gate binds on the rise and either the grade gets cut or the design changes. A slide gate runs on a track and needs clear lateral run space alongside the drive. A cantilever gate carries itself on a counterbalance and needs no ground track, which makes it the right answer where the drive floods, ices, or collects debris, and it costs more accordingly.
The trenching line item
The operator needs 120V and the safety devices need low voltage back to the control board. If the gate sits 200 feet from the nearest power, that is 200 feet of trench, conduit and wire through whatever is between here and there, which in North Texas is usually clay and sometimes rock. We quote it by distance and by what the trench has to cross. It is the single most variable number in a gate project and quoting it without walking the site is how change orders happen.
UL 325 is not paperwork
An automated gate is a several hundred pound machine moving near children and cars. UL 325 requires both primary and secondary entrapment protection, meaning photo eyes, safety edges, or inherent force sensing, correctly placed and actually functioning. A quote that omits safety devices is cheaper for a reason. We install to the standard and we test it on every service visit afterward, and we will not reconnect an operator whose safety devices have been bypassed.
Budget for the maintenance, not just the install
A gate lives outdoors in Texas weather and moves several times a day. Hinges, rollers, the control board, the battery and the safety devices are wear items. North Texas clay moves posts. Storms take out boards. A gate that gets a service visit once a year stays working. A gate that gets attention only when it fails costs more over five years and fails at the worst possible time, which is with a car in the drive and the road behind it.

Still stuck? Call (817) 381-6173 and talk to someone who does this every day.
How long does a gate installation take?
Post footings need to cure before the gate hangs, so most projects run across more than one visit. Fabrication lead time on a custom gate is the longer pole. We give you the schedule at the quote.
Can you automate a gate I already have?
Usually yes. We check the gate's weight, the hinge condition, the post footings and whether the frame is stiff enough to take an operator without racking. If the posts were set without adequate footings, they get addressed first or the operator will tear them out.
What happens in a power outage?
Every operator we install has a manual release, and we specify battery backup so the gate keeps cycling through an outage. In a North Texas ice storm that is the difference between leaving your property and not.
Do gates work with delivery drivers and guests?
Yes. Keypads, cell-based entry that rings your phone, intercoms and vehicle detection loops all handle this. We set up what you will actually use rather than the most expensive option in the catalog.
