Fort Worth Putting Greens
Backyard putting greens for Fort Worth yards
Short answer
A Fort Worth putting green is a grading project first. Base compaction and contour decide the roll, and the putting surface is a different product from lawn turf. Fort Worth's two-day watering schedule runs all year, which is why keeping a natural practice surface here is impractical. Greens are quoted after a site measure.
A practice green you can use in July
Overview
Fort Worth's putting green demand is smaller than Dallas's but real, and the city's watering rules make the case for a synthetic surface more plainly than anywhere else in the metro.
Why Fort Worth's rules matter to a practice green
Under City Ordinance 21194-07-2014 Fort Worth operates a twice-a-week assigned-day irrigation schedule for all water customers, year round, with no seasonal relaxation. Monday is a no-watering day, and sprinklers may not run between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. A natural bentgrass or bermuda practice surface needs more water, more often, than that schedule permits, and the city publishes escalating administrative fees at 25, 50 and 75 dollars before a citation and meter lock-out. A synthetic green sidesteps the schedule entirely because it needs no irrigation.
- Two assigned days, year round, no seasonal easing
- No sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
- Published fees escalate to a citation and meter lock-out
What controls the roll
Base compaction and contour, verified during the build rather than inspected afterwards. Settlement in an under-compacted base shows up as a dead spot and cannot be groomed out. Cup positions, the breaks that serve them and the fringe transition are design decisions taken before material arrives, which is why a green needs more planning than a lawn area of the same size.
The irrigation permit still applies
If building the green means capping or reworking existing irrigation zones, Fort Worth's permit regime applies: a permit is required to install a system or alter one by 20 percent or more, a tested backflow prevention device is required at the supply connection, and anyone connecting to the city supply since January 1, 2009 must hold a TCEQ license. Permits go through Development Services on 817-392-2222. We put that in the quote rather than discovering it later.
- Permit at the 20 percent alteration threshold
- Tested backflow prevention at the supply connection
- TCEQ-licensed irrigator required
What we will not claim
No stimp figure, no tour comparison, no square-foot price. Speed depends on the installed surface, the contour and maintenance. All city facts on this page were read on November 8, 2026.

Why build a synthetic green in Fort Worth?
Because the city caps irrigation at two assigned days a week year round, with no seasonal easing and published fines. A natural practice surface needs more water than the schedule allows. A synthetic green needs none.
How much space do I need?
Enough for the shots you want to practise. A compact green supports a few genuine pin positions, and chipping needs run-off space beyond the putting surface.
Will the green need a permit?
The green itself does not. If it means altering your irrigation by 20 percent or more, Fort Worth requires a permit plus a tested backflow prevention device, and the work must be done by a TCEQ-licensed irrigator.
What does a Fort Worth putting green cost?
We quote after a site measure. Contour work, base compaction and any irrigation permitting drive the scope more than the surface product does.
