Dallas Putting Greens
Backyard putting greens for Dallas yards
Short answer
A Dallas putting green is shaped and compacted before it is surfaced. Contour, base compaction and the fringe transition decide how a ball rolls, and the putting surface is a different product from lawn turf. Greens are designed around your space and the shots you want, then quoted after a site measure.
Roll comes from the base, not the brochure
Overview
Dallas carries the metro's clearest putting green demand, and it splits two ways. Backyard greens are the bulk of it. Office greens are a separate and real brief, usually small, flat and indoors or in a courtyard. The build differs enough that the conversation should start with which one you mean.
What makes a green putt true
Speed and trueness are a base outcome. An under-compacted base settles unevenly and the green develops dead spots that no amount of surface grooming fixes. Contours have to be set and verified during the build rather than assessed afterwards, because correcting a contour means lifting the surface. Cup positions, the breaks serving them and the fringe transition are decided before material arrives.
- Base compacted and verified in lifts, because settlement reads as a dead spot
- Contours set and checked during the build
- Cup positions and breaks planned together, not placed later
Sizing against a Dallas lot
Most Dallas residential greens are an addition to a yard rather than a replacement for it, and the lot decides what is honest. A compact green will hold two or three genuine pin positions. Chipping from outside the green needs run-off space and a surround that tolerates a landing ball. Tell us which shots you actually want to practise and the space will settle the rest. Greens frequently share a project with a patio or pool deck coating, and doing the grading once is cheaper than twice.
The Dallas code and water angle
Dallas Development Code Section 51A-10.103(a) prevents synthetic turf satisfying required landscaping, which rarely affects a back garden green but is worth raising if yours would sit in a required landscape area. On water, Dallas caps lawn watering at twice weekly with no watering on Mondays, Tuesdays or Fridays from April 1 to October 31, and its Stage 3 drought provisions prohibit watering turf and ground covers outright. A natural practice green is not a realistic thing to maintain under those rules, which is the usual reason this project comes up.
What we will not claim
No stimp figure, no tour comparison, no price per square foot. Green speed depends on the installed product, the contour and the maintenance you do. Ask what surface is proposed, what it is built to roll like, and what the installed total covers.

Frequently asked questions
Still stuck? Call (817) 809-9236 and talk to someone who does this every day.
How much space does a Dallas backyard green need?
Enough for the shots you want. A compact green supports a few genuine pin positions; chipping needs run-off space beyond the putting surface. We size it against your lot rather than against a minimum.
Is putting green turf the same as lawn turf?
No. A putting surface is short and dense and built for ball roll, and lawn turf will not putt properly. A green usually also has a separate fringe product around it.
Can a green be combined with a patio project?
Often, and it is more efficient to do the grading once. If a patio or pool deck coating is already on your list, raise the green at the same time.
What does a Dallas putting green cost?
We quote after a site measure. Contour work and base compaction drive the scope more than the surface product does.
