Allen Turf
Artificial turf in Allen, and the primary watering day system
Short answer
Allen assigns each address a primary watering day. From November 1 to March 31 watering is once a week on that day. From April 1 to October 31 it moves to two days, with sprinklers prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sprinkler use is also prohibited below 32 degrees. Turf work is quoted after a site measure.
Artificial turf in Allen
Overview
Allen is the lightest-documented of the North Texas cities we researched on the turf question, and we would rather say that than imply more certainty than we have. Its watering structure is clear; its turf position is genuinely open.
How Allen schedules watering
Allen uses a primary watering day assigned to the address. Between November 1 and March 31, watering is limited to once a week on that primary day. Between April 1 and October 31 it moves to two days per week, with sprinkler and irrigation system use prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Separately, sprinkler use is prohibited when the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The structure sits under Allen Code Chapter 14, Article I, Section 14-14.1, with a plan lineage running from Ordinance 3657-4-19, approved April 23, 2019, to the 2024 plan adopted through the April 9, 2024 council item.
- November 1 to March 31: once weekly on the primary day
- April 1 to October 31: two days weekly, no sprinklers 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Below 32 degrees Fahrenheit: sprinkler use prohibited
Turf rules: genuinely unresolved
No artificial turf provision was located in the five Allen documents we read. We could not read Allen's Land Development Code, which is where a landscape turf provision would most likely sit, because the code library is behind a bot check we did not attempt to defeat. So Allen's position on artificial turf in a front yard is unknown, not permitted. Given that two of its neighbours, Frisco and McKinney, both prohibit front yard turf, we would not assume Allen does not. Call the City before planning a front yard.
What that means practically
Back yards, dog runs, play areas and putting greens are the low-risk projects here. A front yard in Allen needs a phone call to the City first, and we will say so rather than quoting work that might have to come out.
The honest position
Allen's demand signal for artificial turf is the thinnest of the nine cities we found evidence for, and its code position is the least verified. This page exists because the watering structure is real and city-specific. It does not pretend the turf question is answered.

Does Allen allow artificial turf in front yards?
We do not know. No turf provision was located in the five Allen documents we read, and the Land Development Code was not readable. Two neighbouring cities, Frisco and McKinney, both prohibit front yard turf, so confirm with Allen before planning one.
What is a primary watering day?
Allen assigns each address a day. In winter, November 1 to March 31, watering is once a week on that day. In summer it moves to two days, with sprinklers prohibited between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Can I water when it is freezing?
No. Allen prohibits sprinkler use when the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a sensible rule and also a reason turf comes up for areas that look poor through a North Texas winter.
What does turf cost in Allen?
We quote after a site measure. Base depth, drainage route and irrigation changes move an installed total more than the turf product does.
