Choosing a garage floor coating for Texas heat

Short answer

Choosing a garage floor coating for Texas heat?

For a Texas garage, ask about the complete coating system, slab condition, sunlight exposure and the manufacturer’s installation and service limits. “Heat resistant” is not a complete specification. The floor, vehicle traffic and installation weather need to be considered together before a product or schedule is chosen.

Describe how the garage gets used

Tell the installer whether vehicles park immediately after a highway drive, the door stays open in afternoon sun, or the garage doubles as a workshop. Identify the sun-exposed apron separately from the interior. Those details help the contractor choose the system and explain where a garage coating scope ends.

Ask for the product information behind the claim

Request names for the primer, body coat and topcoat, plus the relevant product data sheets. Ask the installer to identify the temperature limits, exposure suitability and return-to-vehicle schedule that apply to the proposed system. A generic chemistry label does not tell you every layer’s behavior or establish a warranty against tire marks.

Make preparation and moisture part of the quote

A hot forecast does not establish that a slab is dry or ready to coat. Ask how the slab will be evaluated, what preparation is required and what happens if conditions fall outside the selected product’s limits. Existing paint, contamination and repairs should be visible line items. The installer should explain any change in method or schedule before work starts.

Plan a realistic handover

Arrange vehicle storage until the installer releases the floor for driving. Request separate guidance for walking, parking, dragging equipment and cleaning. Discuss shade, ventilation and access during the work without assuming that faster summer drying equals a shorter safe cure. Keep the care instructions and product schedule with the invoice.
