When can you use a newly coated garage floor
Short answer
When can you use a newly coated garage floor?
Use the written reopening schedule for the actual coating system and site conditions. Walking, parking, heavy storage and chemical exposure may have different waiting periods. Application time and full cure are different milestones, so “installed in one day” should not be read as permission to drive on the floor that evening.

Ask for four milestones
Before booking, request the earliest allowed foot traffic, vehicle traffic, heavy-item placement and normal cleaning or chemical exposure. Have the installer explain what conditions those times assume. Keep a copy where everyone in the household can see it so a second driver does not use the garage too early.
Product and conditions decide the schedule
The contractor should use the selected system’s technical data, not a generic online countdown. Ask how temperature, humidity, slab condition and layer thickness affect the plan for your project. Different primers and topcoats can have different requirements. If the schedule changes during installation, request the updated handover instructions.
Plan the garage contents before work starts
Arrange off-floor storage for vehicles, cabinets, tools and heavy equipment through the approved reopening date. Ask about ladders, rolling carts, floor mats and tires, not just footsteps. Avoid dragging items back onto the finish. Follow the installer’s instructions for ventilation and access while the work area is restricted.
When the surface does not seem ready
If the floor feels tacky or looks unusual at the scheduled handover, contact the installer before loading it or trying a cleaner. Photograph the condition and record when the last coat was applied. Do not treat a dry-looking surface as proof that every service limit has been reached.

Can I park as soon as the crew leaves?
Only if the installer’s written vehicle-traffic release says so. The crew completing application is a different event from the floor being ready for parked vehicles.
